doomyPLUS

What is doombyPLUS?

doombyPLUS is a subscription service that removes all advertising from a member's website and member zone. It provides a host of extra services, like:

- increased file and image storage space
- integration of Google AdSense accounts
- product sales via PayPal

and much more.

For more information on all the benefits of a doombyPLUS subscription, or to become a doombyPLUS member, sign into your member zone and navigate to the doombyPLUS" > "Why upgrade?

Why do I still have ads on my website when I've subscribed to doombyPLUS?

The advertising you're seeing isn't put there by doomby, as your subscription ensures advertising is removed from your website. The ads are probably part of widgets (third-party elements such as clocks, calendars, counters etc.) installed in your menus or elsewhere on your website. Often, these services include advertising in the form of pup-ops in exchange for their gratuity. If the advertising is posing a problem, isolate the widget causing the problem and remove it, or replace it with another one.

Can I pay for doombyPLUS by check?

If you have a French bank account, yes. If not, we're sorry but we can't accept your check at this time.

For French bank account holders wishing to pay by check, head to doombyPLUS > Upgrade/Renew, click "Continue" then choose the payment method. Check the box indicating that you have read and accepted the Terms of Sales, then confirm your order by clicking "Continue" again.

Don't forget to write the reference number you'll be given and your username on the back of the check.

Domain name

I have an existing domain name - can I use it for my doomby website?

You can transfer an existing domain name in order to associate it with your doomby website. The transfer of a domain name is a technical operation costing €35 (inc. tax).

1. The first step involves contacting your existing registrar and requesting the domain name be unlocked in preparation for the transfer. In exchange, you'll receive a transfer authorization code. Once you've received the code from your registrar, head to the Domain menu of your member zone and click Manage/register.
2. Enter the name then click "Check availability".
3. As the domain already exists, indicate that the domain is yours and provide the transfer authorization code.

Please note that domains cannot be transferred within the first two months following their initial registration, and that transfer delays are dependent on the reactivity of the existing registrar (minimum one week).

Can I pay for a domain name by check?

Check payments are only accepted for checks drawn on French bank accounts in euros. To pay by check, navigate to the Domain > Manage/Register menu. Select a name and follow the instructions provided. At the final step, select "Payment by check". Don't forget to include the payment reference and your username on the back of the check.

How to I register a domain name?

To register a domain name, navigate to Domain > Manage/Register. Towards the bottom of this page, in the Register a domain name section, type the name you'd like to register without the extension (without .com, .net etc.). Click "Check availability" to find out if the name is available for the chosen extension. If the name is available, you can register it by clicking the "Continue" button.

How long will it take for my domain name to be set up?

Names are not purchased the moment payment is accepted - domain name registration involves several administrative steps behind the scenes following receipt of payment - these usually take no more than a couple of hours to complete. You'll receive a confirmation e-mail as soon as the process is finished and your name operational.

What extensions are available for my domain name?

For just ?35/yr, you can get a personalized domain name for your doomby account (ending in .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .eu, .be). You might be wondering why all these different extensions exist - originally, they enabled people to figure out quickly where an address was located geographically (by country, such as .ca for Canada) or what type of website it was (.com for a company, .org for a non-profit organization, etc.). This isn't always the case anymore, as many geographical extensions are now used for other purposes (.tv, for example). On doomby, the following guidelines apply to choosing an extension:

- .com for community websites
- .net for websites related to the internet or computers in general
- .org for non-profit organizations, community groups, associations etc.
- .biz for a business or company website (related to any commercial activity)
- .info news or information websites
- .eu any website in a European Union member nation
- .be any Belgian website

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the one people will use to access your website. Choosing a personalized domain name gives people a simple, easy-to-remember way of accessing your website, and should always be related to your website, like www.doomby.com. A domain name has two main parts: a root ("doomby") and an extension (".com"). When choosing a domain name for your website, remember to check that the combination of root and extension you're interested in are available.

What happens to the work I've done on getting my site noticed by search engines (SEO) when I get a personalized domain name?

You won't lose all the hard work you've already done. Once your domain name is up and running, a "301" redirection from your existing site address to your new one is set up that transparently takes care of ensuring your old links still work. Existing links in search engines, such as username.doomby.com/yourpage will be transferred to your-new-domain-name.com/yourpage.

Why does my old site address still show up in search engine results?

Once a personalized domain name is up and running, a "301" redirection is put in place to transparently convert requests for your old website addresses to your new ones. Just as it took a few weeks for search engines to initially list your website in their databases, they'll take a few weeks to update their information to take into account your new addresses.

Advertizing campaigns

What's an ad campaign?

Purchasing an ad campaign enables you to advertise your website on doomby member websites. You create your ad text, and select the number of clicks (or "visits") you'd like, from 100 to 10000. It's that easy.

Once the campaign is finished, you'll receive a list of detailed statistics concerning your ad campaign (displays and clicks). You can manage your ad campaigns via the Site > Advertise your website > Ad campaign menu.

Where can I go to find out how my ad campaign is doing?

As soon as it's activated (once payment has been received), you can check the results of your campaign in real-time (number of clicks per day, referring websites etc.) from the Site > Promote your website > My campaigns menu.

I just bought an advertising campaign. When will it start?

Your ad campaign will begin within 1 working day. You'll receive an e-mail as soon as it starts, together with a link to an address where you can follow your marketing campaign's statistics.

Where will my ads appear?

Your ads will be displayed on websites throughout the doomby member site network (those sites made with the free version), whose theme is related to your own. They'll also be displayed on the doomby directory.

How long will my ad campaign be displayed?

Ad campaigns don't run for a set length of time but for a number of clicks. We can't tell you how long it will take your displays to run - it all depends on the number of clicks you've chosen, and how appealing your ad text is to others - don't hesitate to change it if it doesn't seem to be working.
