Pages

How can I change my page order?

To change the order of your pages, you'll need to head to the Pages > Page manager menu. You'll find a list of the categories you've created. Click on a category to see the pages it contains - to move a page from one category to another, or to change the order, slide it with your mouse pointer, then click to "Save" your changes.

How can I quickly indicate to visitors which pages are new?

You can stick a logo to a page title (on the right) to mark it as "new". Add it to any page from the "More options" field at the bottom of the page manager in your member zone. You can select the date you'd like the logo to stop displaying. If you have a different logo or icon you'd like to use instead, upload another one by selecting "edit "new" image" (must be less than 40 x 40 pixels).

How do I change the size of my text?

You can set your text size for your whole website from the Configuration > Personalize design menu, or for each page (or part of the page) by using the buttons on the page editor toolbar (ensure you've enabled the full toolbar first from the Account > Options menu).

How do I make a link that will send an email?

To add an e-mail link, first select the text to link to with the page editor, then use the "Insert/edit link" button to add a link. Instead of adding a link to a page (like http:// ...), add a link as follows:

mailto:emailaddress@isp.com

For more information, see the tutorials.

How do I make a table?

To make a table, open the page with the visual editor and place the cursor where you'd like the table added. Click the "Table" button of the toolbar (it looks like a grid), and use the table editor that appears to adjust the settings of the table (number of rows and columns, border settings). You can change your table settings at any time later by opening it again with the table editor.

How do I use a PayPal page?

For more information on getting the most out of PayPal pages, see our tutorials.

What's a hidden page?

Hidden pages are simply pages that are not listed in your website menus. They exist, and can therefore be visited or displayed, however you need to manually provide the link to the page to visitors.

What's the difference between a page and a category?

Pages are used to display content, such as text, images, videos etc. Categories are used to sort pages by theme, in the same way that folders are used to sort files on your computer. Regrouping pages into categories is a way to help visitors to your website navigate through your content more easily.

How can I stop visitors leaving comments on my pages?

You can disable the comments features from the Pages > Comments > Options menu.

The photos on my page have disappeared! Where have they gone?

Image files don't disappear by themselves. Either the link to the image has been removed from the page, or the image has been deleted from your file storage space. Once you remove a file from your storage area, links to it from your pages (such as photos on a page) will no longer work. If the file was stored on an external server, it has probably been deleted or is otherwise inaccessible - check with the hosting provider to find out why.

How do I remove a page comment left by a visitor?

You can delete page comments from the Pages > Comments menu. Please note that comments cannot be edited, only deleted.

How do I delete a page?

Head to the Pages > Page manager, where you'll find a list of your pages by category.

Pass your mouse over the page you'd like to delete, and select "Delete", then confirm your choice.

Remember: once you've deleted a page, you cannot retrieve it, so make sure you're certain before deleting it (and its text).

How do I add content copied from a word processor?

Most people have a word processor of some sort, and it can be tempting to use it to construct your pages, then copy over the page layout to your doomby website. Unfortunately, the invisible code that is added to text and images (the code that determines the page layout) present in word processors is incompatible with web browsers. In short, you cannot directly copy over content from a word processor to your doomby website. If you do, your pages risk being deformed, or not displaying at all.

If you need to copy content from a word processor, first you'll have to convert it to plain text (thus removing all page formatting). To do this, either save the document as a ".txt" or use a simple text editor and paste your formatted content into a new plain text document. Once you've done this, your content will be 'cleaned' of any formatting code, and you can the paste it directly onto your doomby page using the visual page editor.

There's also a simpler way to paste your pre-formatted content - just select the "Paste as plain text" button of your toolbar and paste your content in the pop-up window. This will clean all the formatting code from the text.

All you need do now is reapply your page formatting, and add your images before saving your page.

How do I fix it without having to start all over again?

The more often you make changes to a make (adding and removing text or other elements), the greater the risk that small fragments of the formatting code get left behind, or wind up in the wrong place. Sometimes, this can cause your page formatting to go awry. If this happens, the best thing to do is to remove all the formatting from the page then reapply it.

To remove your formatting, select all your text (or just the part that's not displaying correctly), then click the "Remove formatting" toolbar button. This will remove all the HTML page formatting code from the selected text. You can then reapply your formatting.

How do I access the list of hidden pages?

Head to the "Hidden pages" tab in the Pages >Page manager menu. You'll find a list of all your hidden pages, listed by category.

How do I insert a link?

To insert a link using the visual editor, first type then select the text to which you want to attach the link. With the text selected (highlighted), click the "Insert/edit link" button from the toolbar.

In the pop-up window, you'll need to provide the URL for the link, including "http://" (if you don't, the link won't work). Then save your changes.

How do I insert a link to a hidden page?

To link to a hidden page, you'll need to obtain its URL. First head to the Page manager menu, then select the "Hidden pages" tab.

You'll see a list of your hidden pages - click the text "Link to this page" (beside the title of the page to which you want to link). The URL of the page will be displayed - select and copy it, then paste it in the page editor wherever you need to create your link.

Can I remove the "last update" tag at the bottom of my pages?

You can only do so if you are a doombyPLUS subscriber, by navigating to the page options, available from the Pages > Options menu.

What's an anchor, and how do I use it?

Anchors are invisible markers on a page, used to navigate from one point on a page to another by clicking a link (for example, "Top of Page"). See the tutorials for more on anchors.

- is saved as 72 DPI, in RGB
- is less than 2MB in size
- has a short name, containing no spaces, accents or special characters.

My photos are too large for the page. How do I make them smaller?

You can either increase the size of the page from the Configuration > Personalize design menu, or reduce the size of the image.

Is there a way to prevent people copying my images?

There are scripts that you can add to your website's editable zones (accessible via the Configuration > Editable zones menu) to disable the use of RIGHT-CLICK on your website. However, this will not prevent people from copying your images if they are determined to do so (by downloading it via the source code, or simply taking a screenshot of your page).

What's a favicon, and where do I put it?

A favicon is a small image file displayed next to your website address in a browser address bar. For information on how to add one, consult our tutorials.

My page layout is going haywire and I can't fix it. What should I do?

There's probably something wrong with the HTML page code. If the problem is present throughout your website, check the editable HTML zones first (at the top and bottom of your website, and at the bottom of your side menu(s)). Make sure that all opened HTML tags are closed.

If the problem only concerns one page (or a few pages), check the HTML code of the page(s) and check that all open tags are closed. Sometimes it only takes one unclosed tag (like <div> ) to completely ruin the page layout of your whole website.

If you are using an older web browser, such as Internet Explorer 6, update to a later version or a different browser and see if the problem is related to the browser.
