- What's a sitemap? How do I add one?
-
A sitemap is a file (.xml format) containing a list of all of the pages of your website. You don't need to do anything to make one, it's automatically generated. A copy is stored at the root of your website - to access it, just enter the address of your website and add "sitemap.xml" at the end. For example, if your website address is "username.doomby.com", your sitemap file is located at username.doomby.com/sitemap.xml. To submit your sitemap (for example, to Google), you can just use this address.
- My website isn't showing up in search engines.
-
If you're website is still fairly recent, that's normal. It can take several days - or weeks - until the automated "robots" get sent to have a look at your website and add it to their database. You can speed things up by submitting it manually. To do so:
- for Google, head here http://www.google.com/addurl/
- for Yahoo, this way http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
- for Bing, it's here http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx
